Even with careful brushing and daily oral care, teeth can become stained from certain food and drinks. Plaque and tartar can frequently build up in hard-to-reach areas too. Bacterial toxins contained in the plaque can potentially irritate the gums and cause inflammation or gingivitis, leading to bone loss and periodontal disease if left untreated.
A modern alternative to the traditional scale and polish, regular Airflow® cleaning is an effective way to remove staining as well as light tartar and plaque build-up. This method is faster than traditional scaling and polishing techniques during which patients generally do not experience any sensitivity or discomfort. Airflow® can also be safely used on implants, bridges, veneers and crowns.
Once you’re comfortable in one of our patient chairs, your dentist or hygienist will direct a fine mixture of air, warm water and flavoured powder over your teeth. The high-pressure jet creates a light abrasive action that cleans the front and back surfaces of your teeth as well as in between.
There is no pain involved the in the Airflow® cleaning treatment and your teeth will not be damaged during the process. As the Airflow® system is a non-contact cleaning procedure, the majority of patients feel no more than a slight, temporary tingling sensation. Your teeth will feel and look cleaner and brighter afterwards.
We normally recommend having your teeth professionally cleaned every 3-6 months. Naturally, we can tailor your personalised treatment plan to include Airflow® cleaning, depending on your individual needs.
